πŸ·πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈWine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend 2018πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ·

What is better then running in a runDisney race? Running in two back to back!! This was a feat that I had yet to attempt. A race here or there, maybe once a month is all I had competed in before.

I decided I wanted to attempt to run in two races back to back. Since I had never tried this before I wanted to start out slow and just try a 5k and 10k to be my two races. The 5k would be on Friday morning and the 10k to follow on that Saturday. 3:30 wake up time comes super early let me tell ya.

My costumes of choice for this race weekend were going to be Princess Aurora and Maleficent. Delaney wanted to run in the kids race this year and chose to also be Princess Aurora. So I had to set out and make some costumes.

Race weekend quickly came upon us and I was starting to doubt myself if I was actually go to be able to accomplish this task. Could I honestly run two days in a row and survive? Well ready or not, it was time to test my fate. 5k here we come!

One race down, one to go. With the 5k behind me I could now focus on tomorrow’s endeavor. I have never attempted to run two races in one weekend so this was going to be interesting to say the least. This sleeping beauty was going to tape up and call it a day and get a good nights rest for a 3:30 am wake up time the following morning. πŸ’€

Rise and shine for race #2. 10k here we come! Transformation from Sleeping Beauty πŸŽ€ to Maleficent πŸ‰ was complete. It was a little on the cold side that morning. Complete opposite of the previous race that’s for sure. This year the race started in the parking lot of Magic Kingdom and finished with a loop around EPCOT and World Showcase, finishing in the usual spot in the parking lot of EPCOT. I survived! I officially had just run two races back to back. Another 5k and 10k in the books for runDisney. Now with my races complete we needed to focus on Delaneys kids race, the 200m dash, Now to travel over to the Wide World of Sports complex for the final race of our Wine and Dine weekend.

Delaney was feeling a little under the weather that weekend but she still did an awesome job. Once we returned home we did find out that she actually had strep throat, poor thing. It was an awesome and rewarding weekend for all and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.

If you have every thought about running in a runDisney race I hope my story has persuaded you to compete in the most magical place on earth. Every mile is truly magical and you will not find a race like it anywhere else. Until next time my Disney friends, have a magical day! ✨

Castaway Cay 5k 2017 Edition: Running on the Surface of the Sun πŸ˜…

Our Disney cruise this year aboard the Fantasy was as magical as ever. I decided to run the Castway 5k again this trip since I skipped the last one due to the bad weather. Luckily this year there was a slight breeze to make the humidity more tolerable then the races on the island in the past. Races in the Bahamas are still wayyyyy harder then in Florida because of the scorching heat that’s for sure. Disney makes sure to provide plenty of water stops for runners throughout the course as usual and then the ocean is just a few steps away to take a dip in the refreshing water once the race is over. The finisher medals were upgraded since the last race I did on the cruise in 2014. Two thumbs up for the upgrade πŸ‘πŸ‘.

The route is still the same as it was in 2014 when I last ran this race. Great course until the people who rent the bicycles start coming out to ride the trails and run you off the course lol 🚲🚲🚲🚲. All in all it was a lot of fun as usual and nothing beats a runDisney event, especially when you don’t have to pay extra for it πŸ’΅. Stay Disney my friends and have a magical day ✨.

πŸ‘ŸπŸ·Disney’s Wine & Dine 2016: Inaugural 10kπŸ‘ŸπŸ·

I know I am a tad late in posting about this race seeing how it was two weeks ago, but unfortunately I have had a lot going on since then involving getting in an automobile accident and all the things that come along with that.  Hopefully I will be healed up and ready for my next race in January which is a half, so I will need to be on top of my game by then.

So I competed in the Inaugural 10k during the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend.  Unfortunately I had to run it alone this year because my sister did not get registered in time before it sold out.  At least it was only 6.2 miles by myself…I don’t think I could have talked to myself for a whole 13.1 lol.

Leaving for the race

The packet pickup process this year went wayyyyyyyy smoother then previous years.  Maybe they took some of the participants suggestions with issues in the past and made changes.  As usual, by the time I got there for the expo, they were already sold out of many of the special race merchandise. Oh well, nothing I couldn’t live without and just ends up saving me more money…till I find something else I want lol.

The course was the usual start in Epcot parking lot, traveling around the outside and entering through a back lot between Norway and China in the world showcase.  We run through the world showcase exiting between France and the UK for a trip around the boardwalk and then return back inside the park for the final stretch.

Before the race started

The temperature was nice this year, at least for my run in the morning at 5:30 am.  Delaney ran in the kid races that afternoon and it had warmed up a lot by then.  I decided to wear the Mickey hands as part of my costume this year and they were a little warm at times, not to mention hard to maneuver if I needed to adjust my ear buds or use my phone to take a picture. Something to think about next time when planning a costume lol.
I was very proud of my time, it was a personal best for myself πŸ…and Delaney did awesome in her race too. It’s great that Disney offers the races for kids too. Her race was 200m for her age division. She proudly wore that medal all day!

Overall, it was a great race weekend and we can’t wait till next year and hopefully compete again. Stay Disney my friends and have a magical day ✨.

πŸ…DIY: How to display your medalsπŸ…

I needed more space to display my medals from all the races I have competed in and I wanted to seperate the Disney ones from the “other” ones lol. I went to Lowes and bought just a basic curtain rod, the expandable kind, and mounted it on the wall. I added the Mickey hands to the ends for that extra Disney touch.

Update: runDisney Virtual Running Shorts completed πŸ…

The package came very nicely arranged with my medals, a cup, and a little card of congratulations.  We have completed the series and can’t wait till the wine and dine  around Epcot in November πŸ·πŸ‘ŸπŸ…

Yeahhhhhhhhh it arrived!!!!!

The cup that came included when you competed in the series.

It was a hot one this morning!!!

πŸ…Upgrade to the runDisney 5k racesπŸ…

The only let down I had with registering for the runDisney 5k races was that the medals you received at the completion of your race were rubber, they were not the nice medals that you would get if you ran a 10k or farther.  Kind of a disappointment especially since the races were not cheap.  runDisney announced today exciting news.  Run on over to their blog and take a look for yourself.  They even have photos of the new medals for a few of the upcoming 5ks.  Have a magical day everyone.✨

β€οΈπŸ‘Ÿ runDisney From Home With the Virtual Shorts Running SeriesπŸ‘Ÿβ€οΈ

Disney has joined the trend of “virtual” races. These are very low key races that don’t require you to travel or even log your time. You can run the distance required from your home treadmill or just walk around your neighborhood.
Disney has named their race the Virtual Running Shorts.  It consists of 3 separate virtual 5ks with the option to also take the “challenge” by running all 3 and earning a 4 th medal for completing the whole series.

The bibs are not actually sent to you but you are able to add your name to them and print them out if your wish to keep them as a record of the race like I do.  Here is a picture of my 4 that I have done.

The medals are sent to you within 30 days of completion of each race.  They do have a time frame for you to complete each race.

Yellow Shoes: May 15th -June 1st

Red Pants: June 5th – June 18th

White Gloves: June 19th – June 30th

Upon completion of the whole series of 5ks you are then given the prized Mickey medal to go along with your collection. 9.3 magical miles and no travel required or getting up at 4 am to make it to the start line lol.
I will keep you updated as I finish each race and when I receive my medals πŸ™‚ Until then, stay Disney my friends and have a magical day ✨

πŸ‘Ÿ My Next runDisney Race Costume Ideas πŸ‘Ÿ

My ideas for the next runDisney race that I will running in is leaning towards the classics…Steamboat Willie, Mickey Mouse or the iconic Minnie.  So basically I will be needing to invest in a pair of running shoes that are more on the muted side instead of my usual bright neon colored ones.  I have found a couple of ideas online so far but I do have till the end of October to finalize things.  I am excited because my daughter will also be running that weekend with me in one of the kids races which she is super excited about of course.  Great memories to be made.

This is the first year that the Wine and Dine weekend will include a 10k so cool that I will be getting to run in that. Bummer that the half got moved to a day time race, I know alot of people are pretty peeved about that one. Understandable though because the parks being open later now that Animal Kingdom will now be having night time attractions would interfere with the race start time of the usual 10 pm.

Keep watch for more to come with my costume updates and sneak peaks. November 6th will be here before we know it.  Have a magical day everyone ✨.
